1. Leggett & Platt and Hickory Springs* are the most common manufacturers. This will be different than the company that made your sofa (Ashley, Broyhill, Simmons, La‐Z‐Boy, and other sofa or couch manufacturers.)

2. The model number sticker will contain a variety of information and may appear in several different formats. For example: model numbers 6825 or 2568 are the same, and sometimes the manufacturer will list them both ways.

3. The numbers in the model number will tell you the size and series of the mechanism. IMPORTANT NOTE:
It's all in the brackets. When we talk about sizes, we're referring to the bracket-to-bracket width. A universally accepted standard by manufacturers. To ensure exactness, your measurement should span from one mounting bracket to the other, right where the sleeper and sofa frames come together. Remember, this isn't about the tubular frame or the decking.

When it comes to custom furniture, it's crucial to understand that all dimensions provided herein are regarding replacements, and custom builds may need additional space and clearances depending on your design. Because construction methods and materials can vary, we recommend ordering your mechanism before starting your project to verify all measurements and spacing requirements.

Sleeper mattress dimensions are unique and different from regular mattress measurements, and a few more important details for custom projects, enclosures, and cabinet work are: You'll need to supply your own mounting screws or bolts. Remember that the mounting width isn't the same as the mattress size,  subtract 8 inches from the mounting width to determine the correct mattress width.

This means that the measurements specified are the smallest acceptable size for the piece being crafted. However, it's equally important to recognize that most times, it's smart to build your custom furniture around the mechanism. Whether you are building a window seat, a custom entertainment center, or a one-of-a-kind piece that will hide the sleeper mechanism, we advise you to have the mechanism in hand to ensure proper dimensions.

To update your sleeper sofa couch, after you have your new mechanism, obtain help from someone and follow our instructions in the free PDF file to remove the old mechanism and install the new one. Remove the mattress and any cushions before attempting to remove the old frame. Then, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, carefully remove the frame from the sofa. To install the new sleeper mechanism, download and read the PDF instructions. A pullout couch sleeper mechanism can usually be taken out and put back together with just four screws or bolts on the left and right sides of the sofa's bottom.
